Spring has sprung, and it’s high time to swap out sweaters, scarves, and coats for sundresses, sandals, and shorts.

But, says a government agency, as you store away your cold-weather wear, take a quick inventory to make sure your winter boots aren’t part of a new recall connected to a trusted clothing and outdoor gear company.

A new report from the U.S. Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says The North Face, known as a reliable brand for outdoor enthusiasts, is recalling about 15,200 pairs of The North Face Women’s Shellista V Mid Waterproof Boots, as well as 5,900 pairs sold in Canada.

First made available to the public on Thursday, April 17, the CPSC report says a potentially harmful tripping hazard is to blame for the recall: “The hook of one boot can catch on the lace of the other boot, posing a fall hazard to the consumer.”

In total, the CPSC noted there have been 28 reports of the top hook catching on the lace, with 15 minor injuries reported in the U.S. so far.

The boots were sold in the following retail and online locations for around $165 from September 2024 through January 2025: The North Face stores, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Nordstrom, REI, and other stores nationwide, and online at thenorthface.com.
